A Day in Cesky Krumlov
“Cesky Krumlov, the little jewel box of a city in southern Bohemia.”
This town looks like it’s out of a fairytale book. I like to describe it as a mini Prague. The town has a river that swerves through it and a castle in the center. The castle is so well kept up and seriously makes you feel like you are a part of the Renaissance era.
How Do I Get There?
It is extremely easy to get to Cesky Krumlov. First and foremost, the cheapest way to get there is by train. If you are heading there from Prague, you can take a direct train that takes about 3 hours. You will get off on the last arrival when you hear “Cesky Krumlov.” The central train station in Prague is called and is very easy to navigate with English signs all over.
You will want to book your train ticket ahead to avoid any confusion and delay. You can book it on this site: Main Train Station
Once you book your ticket, all you need to do is actually get to the right platform and hop on the train at the Praha hlavní nádraží station!
If you are not going to Cesky Krumlov from Prague then you will want to look for a train station elsewhere. There are also numerous amounts of tours that will take you to this town!
What Do I Do Once I’m There?
Once you get to Cesky Krumlov, you can do a handful of different things. We for sure recommend taking a tour of the castle. This castle was by far the best castle I saw when we studied abroad in Europe! As I said, you will get to live your Renaissance dream.
The cheapest way to see the castle is to book your tour/ticket on this website: Cesky Krumlov Castle
There are many different options to choose from. However, I would recommend that you book a guided tour. It will be quite hard to understand what the heck you are actually seeing if you don’t have a tour guide explaining it all! Plus, they tell awesome stories.
After you have seen the castle you should definitely take a walk through the castle gardens. This garden is located right behind the castle and is FREE! Yes, that’s right absolutely free!
Sometimes the garden is closed but don’t worry, they will always tell you beforehand! Plus, the walk to the gardens is stunning as well.
At night, I recommend you take a night walk along the path by the river. There is not a lot of light pollution in the area, so the stars are gorgeous. I just remember thinking about how the town looked like it was straight out of a medieval-themed movie at night.
Where to Eat
You have to eat traditional Czech food here! It is so delicious, hearty, and CHEAP! If you look for Italian food or other types of Non-Czech food it will be WAAYYY more pricey than just sticking to some good old Czech food! Don’t worry we have a blog post that tells you exactly what to order: 5 Czech Food Items You Must Try
I recommend eating at Eggenberg Restaurant for good Czech food and a lively atmosphere. Try the Eggenberg beer while you’re at it!
You should definitely have a trdelnik for dessert and maybe even some chocolate! There are delicious chocolate and cookie stores in the middle of town. Pretty much go into whichever one catches your eye!
If you’re wondering what a trdelnik is all you need to know is that it is a little piece of heaven. If you like churros and chocolate then you will LOVE trdelniks.
The best thing about this town is whatever you decide to do you will love it. There is no wrong or right way to go about spending a day in Cesky Krumlov!
Where to Stay
If you end up deciding to spend the night then I recommend staying at Hostel Skippy. It is located right on the Vltava River which means you get to have a pretty damn awesome view! The average price per night is only about $40. Once again, CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!
Once again, remember that there is no right or wrong in this magical little town. One day is the perfect amount of time here to frolic around and live your fairytale dream!
